In this course you will use geometry to study the world around you. Be prepared to investigate and explore geometric concepts in order to form conclusions. This year you will discover math in all dimensions!
Remind 101
I will use remind 101 to communicate with our class! This program allows me to send a message to the class via text messaging, however students cannot be contacted individually and do not have the option to respond. Parents are welcome to join too!
To sign up, please create a new text message addressed to the number below with the "message" for the block your class meets.
Be Respectful: Be respectful to yourself, your peers and your instructors. Follow policies as stated in the Red Bank Regional Handbook. Disrespectful language and behavior will not be tolerated.
Be on time: If you were held up with a teacher get a pass.
Be prepared: Bring binder, textbook and pencil to class everyday.
DO NOT: Plan on EATING or SLEEPING in this class.
Cell Phone Policy: Cell phones are to be away at all times unless otherwise specified. During an assessment (quiz, test etc.) cellphones and headphones are NOT acceptable. If your cell phone becomes a distraction or a disruption to the learning environment, your grade may be affected and disciplinary consequences could follow
Academic Expectations
Be proactive: Ask questions and seek extra help. Anticipate your needs and be assertive.
Practice Academic Integrity: Submit work that is your own work. Copying or cheating will result in a zero on the assignment and disciplinary consequences.
Showcase your work in a professional manner: Each assignment that is turned in to be graded should be neat, organized, clearly labeled and though (show all work!).
Use a pencil: Please!
Homework Policy
Expect Homework to be assigned daily. Homework is graded out a certain number of points, usually between 5 and 10. Homework may account for a small part of your grade, but it accounts for a large part of your understanding. It is important to “test” to your understanding outside of the classroom.
Grading
Your grade in this course will be calculated on a point system. Each assignment will be worth a specific number of points. Your quarter grade will be calculated as follows: the number of points you earned divided by the number of possible points.
Assignments will fall into one of the following categories:
Tests & Projects – worth 100 points and occur at least twice a quarter.
Quizzes – worth about 50 points and occur two to three times a quarter.
Follow Ups – worth 15 - 20 points and occur almost daily. Follow Ups are like “pop” quizzes, but they shouldn’t be a surprise – expect one every day!
Homework – point values range from 5 – 10 points.
Classwork – point values range from 5 – 20 points.
Participation will be worth 50 points per quarter (a quiz grade). All students will start off the quarter with 50 points and 5 points will be deducted from the total if behavior/participation problems arise. For example if a students is sleeping in class, disrespectful to another student, not following the cell phone policy or being disruptive to the learning environment, they will loose 5 points from their total.
Your end of the year grade will be computed as follows: each quarter will count for 20%, the midyear exam will count for 10%, the final exam will count for 10%.
Missing Work Policy
If you are absent it is expected, without exception, that you see me the day you return to school. If we meet on an A day and you are absent and return on a B day, come see me!
Check the website! It is updated daily!
You are responsible for all work and assessments you during your time out.
You are responsible for showing me the work that was due the day you were absent.
Quizzes, Follow Ups and Classwork that are missed due to an absence must be made up. Students can schedule a time during study hall, before school or after school to complete the work. Class time will not be allotted to complete missing work.
Missing work must be completed before the unit test for the work occurs. Once the unit test takes place, the grades pertaining to that unit are finalized.
Late homework that is complete and correct will be accepted for 60% credit (ex. 3/5 max) up until the unit test for that homework assignment.
Missing Unit Tests must be made up within 5 school days.
Exceptions to these policies occur only with communication.
